Alpha-lipoic acid extends roundworm lifespan
High school students Antonia Chan and Shama Patel of Manhasset NY have demonstrated a major anti-aging effect of alpha-Lipoic
Acid supplementation. Roundworms of the species Caenorhabditis elegans, when chronically exposed to ultraviolet light, are known to live a shorter time than unexposed worms. Chan and Patel exposed
roundworms to UV light while simultaneously feeding some of them alpha-Lipoic Acid. Those that received the ALA supplement
lived 22% longer than those not receiving ALA.
