Supplement combination treats macular degeneration
A recently concluded study focusing on the use of dietary supplements to treat Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) revealed
marked benefits from a daily regimen consisting of 500 mg of vitamin C, 400 IU of vitamin E, 15 mg of beta-carotene, 80 mg
of zinc (as zinc oxide) and 2 mg of copper (as cupric oxide). This combination, when used for 7 years by AMD patients, led
to an average reduction by 19% in the progression of patients’ vision loss.
Calculations suggest that this therapy could save the US healthcare system $1.56 billion over the next 10 years if taken by
patients with moderately advanced AMD.
