Noni — lauded by users, scorned by ‘authorities’
A nicely balanced news item about Noni appeared recently in the Charleston Post & Courier. The opinions of enthusiastic noni
drinkers contrast sharply with the skepticism and outright hostility shown by medical and government bureaucrats.

What are benefits of noni juice?
Noni juice contains a large variety of interesting chemical compounds with demonstrable medicinal activities that support
the anecdotal reports of benefits. But nearly all the scientific work has been done in animals or tissue culture, not in humans,
giving critics and bureaucrats an excuse to claim that there is no evidence of benefit in humans. This situation is unlikely
to change soon because funding for scientific studies is scarce. Noni producers cannot afford to pay for clinical studies
of a substance that is unpatentable; and public funds are only available for harrassing noni producers, not for financing
scientific studies.
A good review of what is known about Noni juice is available for free at the website of the journal Acta Pharmacologica Sinica.
