Making supplements unaffordable
One of the strategies being pursued by anti-supplement crusaders is to run the cost of supplements up so high that no one
can afford them. That would put the supplement industry out of business, and bring an end to people’s freedom to decide for
themselves what substances to use for physical and mental well-being.
Are there really people who want to do that? Indeed, there are. Some of them are well-meaning busy-bodies who think you are
too foolish to make your own decisions; others are unscrupulous money-grubbers who stand to profit by forcing you to buy their
products and services instead of those of the supplement industry; still others are freedom-hating ideologues who think the
government should dictate the details of everyone’s behavior. And then there are certain politicians who are willing to legislate
away everyone’s freedom if they think it would help their re-election … and that brings us to the latest political assault
on supplements: Senate Bill 722, which would, if implemented, allow the federal Food and Drug Administration to regulate most
vitamins and supplements out of existence in the United States.
