DMAE’s improvement of mood and alertness confirmed by brain waves
Among several common reasons why people use the supplement DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) is the improvement of mood and cognition.
Although a study in the 1970s suggested that DMAE supplementation can reduce depression, irritability and anxiety, and increase
motivation-initiative, the notion that DMAE improves cognition seems to have been based on casual observations. In several
studies cognitive benefits were specifically looked for but not found. However, these studies used patients with significant
mental impairments — senile dementia, for example.
Now comes a report that shows an improvement in mood and alertness from DMAE usage in patients with only “threshold emotional
disturbance”. Moreover, the improvements were observed both with psychological tests and by EEG (‘brain-wave’) measurements.
It appears that DMAE is more useful in people with less severe mental problems. Perhaps its optimum user-base would be people
who have no problems at all.
