Yet another success for folic acid supplementation
A new study from a group of Toronto researchers reveals that folic acid supplements, when taken during pregnancy, not only
provide protection from certain birth defects, they also dramatically reduce the incidence of neuroblastoma — a frequently
fatal childhood cancer. Despite the headline on the news article linked below, neuroblastoma is not all that “rare”. It occurs
in about 1 in 7000 children born in North America.

In other folate-related news, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has attempted to prevent the Life Extension Foundation
(one of LifeLink’s competitors) from letting its customers know how much folic acid is required to prevent neural tube birth
defects. The FDA has been engaged in a long and continuing effort to block the American public’s access to both supplements
and to true information about them — apparently without regard to the possible impacts on people’s health.
