Supplements in the News

Rosmarinic acid shows promise for rheumatoid arthritis.

Researchers at Hanyang University in Korea have used rosmarinic acid supplementation to prevent the type of joint damage normally seen in rheumatoid arthritis. Arthritis was induced in rat paws by administering collagen, which causes an inflammatory autoimmune disease of the joints — a standard experimental model for rheumatoid arthritis. Some of the rats were then given daily doses of rosmarinic acid, the rest were used as a control. The paws of the control rats developed severe synovitis — a distortion of the structure of the joints. The rats treated with rosmarinic acid did not.
