Fish oil supplementation improves behavior of children with ADHD
We used to think of it as plain ‘brattiness’; now we have a medical term for it: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder’.
The older term was more efficient, but was misleading since it suggested that the condition was merely due to poor parenting
rather than to defects in the physical brain.
So… has our change in attitude toward this disruptive behavior led to any new ways to stop it? It has, although the resulting
treatments are not without significant risks.
One relatively new development, however, appears to be essentially risk-free: fish oil and other oils containing omega-3 fatty
acids. Several reviews have been published this year on the subject of fish oil as a treatment for ADHD. The general conclusion
is that this treatment is a promising one that should receive more attention from clinical researchers.
