Hempseed oil proposed for protecting skin from aging

Hempseed oil, made from the seeds of the plant Cannabis sativa, is one of the best available sources of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. It is particularly valued for its content of (omega-3) linolenic acid, which is considered to be useful for preventing cardiovascular problems.1

Hempseed oil is also of interest to researchers studying certain skin problems. For example, in several clinical studies this oil, taken orally, has improved the clinical symptoms of atopic dermatitis.2

In very recent work done in Turin, researchers found that hempseed oil, used as a lotion, “alleviates skin problems such as dryness and those related to the aging process”.3

A good review of the role and importance of omega-3 fatty acids in the body, with emphasis on the brain and aging, appeared last year in the The Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging.4
